I run Thesis theme here on my blog and also on my local business site.
Many of you will know the issues of moving from older version of thesis to the newer framework. If you’ve limited time like me then it can take forever to make the required changes.
On my home reflexology business site I’m running WordPress 4.0 and Thesis 2.1 with the Classic Responsive skin and I’m pretty happy with this. I still have a lot of work to do on making the site better but the technology stack I’m happy with.
On the blog – although I’ve recently moved to a new hosting provider – I’m now with TSOHost who I’m happy with – I’m still rocking’ Thesis 1.8.5 as my site was almost lost when I tried to upgrade to Thesis 2. The main site is still html based.
So – limited time, complex changes needing to be made and I was finding it impossible to keep my mind straight on what I needed to do. I can hear everyone shouting outsource to a virtual assistant who can do it for you!!
Maybe that is the way to go but in a niche site which makes little in the way of affiliate income you have to prioritise where you spend your money.
The answer to my prayer was Serverpress.com’s product DesktopServer which allows you to set up a local server on your PC or Mac – you get up to three virtual host servers on the free edition.
It took me a little while to get it setup but you have the security of developing and trying out changes without worrying about trashing your live site. I know Thesis skins will allow me to do this on v2 and upwards but I’ve still to get to this stage with my blog and main site.
So I can recommend ServerPress.com (I’m not an affiliate at the moment) – even though I have the free edition they responded to my emails and the documentation is very good.
Let me know what works for you 🙂
