So I've enlarged my bookshelf and purchased The Concise Book of Muscles by Chris Jarmey and also The Trail Guide to the Body by Andrew Biel.
Both books are fantastic in different ways.
- Chris Jarmey's The
Concise Book of Muscles
is very well laid out with clear illustrations on each of the main muscles on one side of a double page and information on origin, insertion, nerve, basic functional movement on the other side of the double page spread. Not only that but there is also information on the sports which use the muscle, the types of movement which can result in damage and common problems and even suggestions for exercises and stretches.
- Andrew Biel's Trail
Guide to the Body: How to Locate Muscles, Bones, and More
is packed full of illustrations, explanations of how to find the different muscles and bony landmarks on the body. Where Jarmey's book is concise Biel's is a veritable goldmine of practical information for the hands on practitioner. With the emphasis on palpatory anatomy. A must have on every bookshelf.
