Reflexology for Maternity and Sub-Fertility.

Reflexology has become more commonly used as a therapy both before conception and throughout pregnancy. The work of Dr. Gowri Motha, an obstetrician who has developed  an approach to pregnancy called the Gentle Birth Method. As well as diet, exercise, visualisation and various ayurvedic remiedies Dr Gowri Motha advocates regular reflexology treatments, creative healing sessions and other complementary therapies throughout pregnancy from 12 weeks onwards as part of a comprehensive preparation for birth. For anyone interested in finding out more about Dr Gowri Motha and her methods  checkout her website The Gentle Birth Method

Naturally it is sensible to check with your midwife and physician before embarking on a course of treatments. See a registered reflexologist who will take into account your medical history and your particular circumstances before deciding whether or not to treat you.

You may prefer to find a reflexologist with an interest in maternity and sub-fertility.  Specialised training courses take place regularly throughout the year so it is becoming easier to find reflexologists who have attended additional training in this area.

Whether trying to conceive or not - we can all benefit by having a clearer understanding of how our bodies work. Mostly we launch into adult life with a basic understanding of sex education - depending on the age of the reader - picked up either at school or from friends.  Then we pick up more information as we go along maybe from documentaries or articles in women's magazines.  Which is probably fine when everything works as it should do.

But when you are having difficulty becoming pregnant you can begin to feel as if your body is out of control.  It really is a great asset if you can identify the phases of your cycle. Well begin with Toni Weschler's book (below) - it contains a wealth of very practical information to help you understand your cycle not the theoretical, normal 28 day cycle. It's not a light read and some people might find some of the illustrations a bit off-putting but it's well worth reading and re-reading.

"Taking Charge of your own Fertility: The definitive guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement and Reproductive Wealth" by Toni Weschler should be required reading for any woman who wants to understand more about her own body.  This book gives clear, practical advice on how to chart your monthly cycle by using simple techniques. Charting can help to identify the times in your cycle when you have the best chance of conceiving.

Maternity and subfertility reflexology has been growing in popularity for some years now.

Many established reflexologists hold training courses throughout the year.
